Sai Baba's communication with his devotees.
M.B. Rege was one of the favoured devotees of Sai baba, relating his reminiscences of Sai baba to Narasimha Swamiji he said,"I look upon Baba as the Creator, Preserver, and Destroyer, HE had no limitations. I thought of Him as a mental or spiritual image in which the finite and the infinite is blended perfectly and yet allowing the finite to appear before us at times.
There are three ways in which the Sai Baba communicates with his devotees. The First was the active waking state: when the devotees are in the difficulties or Baba wanted him to take particular course, the devotee got an inspiration on what course should be taken and the feeling that the inspiration came from Baba. This happened in Rege's case. When he was in Radhakrishna Ayi's house he would feel that Baba called him and would go to the Dwarka Mai and find Baba was in fact waiting for him. The Second method related to the sleeping or trance state. Baba would appear in a dream or a trance, This is called 'Sakshatkara' and considered most impressive and unmistakable. In the 'Third' method Baba asked his devotee to go to some person, who would infact not even know why the devotee was sent to him, but who nevertheless helped the person in accordance with the Baba's internal and unperceived guidance. Some times the person to whom the devotee was sent was totally seems unfit to help, for instance, in the case of the rustic girl to whom Das Ganu was sent for the interpreting the Isa Upanishad. Sai Baba was conservative and impartial in his religious views asking all devotees to keep to their own religion and not to interfere with others' religions. He discouraged intolerance in every form. To him Allah and Vithal were the same as of other saints. Baba said once," Untruth I have never uttered before and nor will I utter it at any time."
